thursday night

[Everybody told him not to do it again. They said he shouldn't spend the night alone, that it's dangerous and he should make sure he has an alibi. He promised them he would learn this time.

The problem here? Shirou Emiya never fucking learns.

So here he is again, spending the night alone in the kitchen like the absolute loser he is. He's keeping himself awake by playing around with Mitsuru's magic, summoning and unsummoning his weird little familiars one by one. If someone else happens to be awake in the lodge, it'd be the perfect time to show up and bother him.

week 1: saturday

[Even after the extremely fun after-party has died down, and the bonfire along with it, Shirou's still sitting by the fire pit. Judging by the way he's staring at nothing in particular, it's possible he hasn't even noticed the others have gone.

As good a time as any to come yell at him?

general info

Appearance: 167cm (5'6''), 58kg (128lbs). He considers himself scrawny and short to the point of being touchy about it, but actually he's quite well-built and muscular thanks to ten years of hard physical training.

Clothes: When not wearing a uniform, he generally goes for generic unassuming shirts and jeans. While outdoors he might be spotted in a black and white jacket.

Demeanour: When at rest Shirou tends to be fairly still and unexpressive, but he gets a little livelier in conversation. Even so, he doesn't use large gestures or move around a lot, remaining calm and easygoing in his body language. If you pay close attention, you might notice that he's often ever so lightly tense, like he's never entirely relaxed.

Voice: He tends to speak in a light, informal tone, but gets a little deeper when he's particularly serious.

Scent: Shirou likes to keep clean and use bland generic soap, so he generally doesn't smell like much. You might catch a whiff of whatever he's been cooking recently, though.

Mental information: He has absolutely no mental shields, so reading his mind is a piece of cake. It comes across as surprisingly calm and empty regardless of his current thoughts and emotions, as if he's somehow been hollowed out. There's also a weird impression of swords that comes across even if he's not specifically thinking about anything related to swords.

Magical information: He gives off the slightest hint of magical energy, but it's faint enough to only be noticeable if you're specifically focusing on him. There's barely enough there to signify a magic-user.
diesifkilled: oh i wasn't listening i was just acknowledging the fact you were telling me something, whatever it was. (you're telling me!)

Backtagging: Yes, absolutely! I will tag as long as I can possibly keep it up.
Threadhopping: Yes!
Fourthwalling: Not unless it would be really funny.
Offensive subjects: There's not much that'll offend me in RP, so I'll just let you know if a subject comes up that I'd like to avoid.

[IC]

Hugging this character: Go for it! He'll be very confused unless it's someone he's very close to, though.
Kissing this character: Sure. Expect intense blushing and flustering.
Flirting with this character: Totally. He probably won't notice unless it's very obvious because he's not smart.
Fighting with this character: Do it. Kick his ass if possible.
Injuring this character: Minor injuries are always fine, ask before anything really serious.
Killing this character: Par for the course in murder death games, but let's talk about it first.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Go for it, but be prepared for a lot of swords.

Warnings: Fate/stay night contains some pretty heavy stuff, particularly related to violence and death. Shirou himself suffers from pretty severe PTSD and related issues. There's also some pretty weird sexual stuff, though I probably won't get into that in threads unless it's relevant. Additionally, Shirou can sometimes say some kind of offensive sexist shit, not because he really buys into it but because he's a thoughtless idiot.

If there's any subject you'd like me to avoid, please drop a comment here!

IC INFO

Name: Shirou Emiya
Age: 17
Canon: Fate/stay night

Character History: Shirou
Fate (The route I'll be playing him from)

Personality: Almost everything about Shirou's personality can be traced back ten years into his past. Though he managed to physically survive the fire that took his home and family, his inner self was effectively killed. He lost all memory of his past life, becoming a blank slate that immediately latched onto his new adoptive father. That attachement, as well as his admiration for Kiritsugu, is what led him to take on Kiritsugu's former dream of becoming a hero - that is, someone who can save people. Not just one out of many, but everyone. Due to the immense trauma and survivor's guilt he suffered, he has no sense of self-worth or self-interest. Thus, he can only derive any enjoyment or meaning in his life from helping others and goes to absurd lengths for it. He'd sacrifice himself for the sake of even a stranger with no hesitation and rarely refuses to help others even in trivial situations. Even when it seems he has fun immersing himself in things like cooking or housework, he's simply doing it for the sake of those who live with him. It should be noted that though he prefers not to think about it, he's not entirely unaware that his ideals are unrealistic and unhealthy; he simply sees them as worth the trouble.

All that said, there's more to Shirou than just naivete and idealism. While he maintains a friendly and calm demeanour most of the time, he can be quite sarcastic and critical of others in his inner thoughts. He'll even show that side outwardly with people he's close to and knows can handle it. Sometimes he'll also be quite rude or just awkward without meaning to; for example, he had a bad habit of trying to use sexist arguments to justify his overprotectiveness to women before fighting alongside Saber forced him to accept he was wrong. Not that it was easy, since he's ridiculously stubborn and will stick to his beliefs as long as he possibly can, no matter how mistaken they might be.

While that stubbornness often holds him back, it's also his greatest strength, allowing him to keep going despite every setback. Whether he's training in magecraft night after night despite having next to no talent for it or standing up and fighting even in the face of hopeless odds, Shirou does not give up. Though his past experiences have given him the ability to remain almost eerily fearless in the face of death and danger, his calmness isn't without emotion; seeing others in pain might not disturb him the way it would a normal person, but it does make him angry in a way he can channel into determination. That goes doubly so when those he cares about the most are in danger. Hurt someone Shirou loves, and he'll become nigh unstoppable in his quest to set things right.

Powers: Though he's technically a mage, Shirou is a complete amateur with little talent or training. Additionally, his special circumstances have left him with an extremely specialised style of magic. The spells he can use are technically all derived from the same source, but since he's not aware of said source and doesn't have enough mana to use it anyway, let's discuss them separately.

Analysis/Tracing: By focusing on an object, Shirou can completely familiarise himself with its composition and workings. When it comes to swords, he does this automatically and unconsciously without needing to focus or even touch the item. He also gains more information, down to the sword's creation process and how it's wielded.

For the sake of game mechanics, it's probably best just to say that any attempts to analyse plot-significant items will automatically fail for whatever reason!

Reinforcement: After analysing an object, Shirou can attempt to reinforce it, making it stronger or more efficient. I use the word attempt here because he tends to fail eight times out of ten. His rate of success is higher in combat situations, especially when reinforcing something to be more sword-like, but he's mostly still pretty shit at it.

Projection: After analysing an object, Shirou is capable of producing a copy of it out of thin air. Objects other than swords retain only their appearance and are otherwise completely useless. Swords are functional, but magical ones are significantly less powerful. Additionally, his body will sometimes unconsciously turn parts of itself into swords as protection from severe danger. As you might imagine, when that happens it's just as likely to harm Shirou himself as it is to stop attacks or close wounds.

As he currently has extremely little knowledge of his projection abilities, the things he can consciously do with it are limited; the only sword he knows he can project is Caliburn, and it costs so much mana that he can't do it without extreme pain and potential damage to his body. (He also can't use the sword's magical properties because never in his dreams will he have that much mana.)

Samples: [There's been a murder.

As much as Shirou wishes he was surprised by this, he really isn't. This whole camp thing has been suspect from the start, so there really is nothing unexpected about finding one of their number floating face down in the quiet waters by the boat area, now blackened by the blood presumably wafting from an unseen wound.

(If there's a part of him that always fearfully anticipates the moment he'll lose everyone around him again, he ignores it. That kind of pessimism is hardly a good attitude for a superhero.)

After wading closer, he carefully turns the body over. It's one of the other guys - his name escapes Shirou for the moment. The only thing he can focus on is the source of all the blood, a nasty gash in the middle of the boy's chest.

Yeah, this was definitely not a natural death. Not as bad as burning alive, but far from peaceful either.

He looks up at the people gathered around, looking calm and composed despite the fury boiling inside his chest.
]

We're going to need to find out who did this.

[It's very dramatic, but... also kind of really obvious. Not likely to impress anyone.]

Do you want to volunteer to be part of the first murder?: Yes!

Any other questions or concerns?:
